ELLA SATTERTHWAITE
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ella Satterthwaite is a visual artist based across the West Midlands, using her practice and research to explore gender politics of postcolonial societal aesthetics to critique, distort and reinterpret mythological ideals. In her sculptural pieces, she uses performative acts of femininity to explore the identity of what is ‘feminine’ in the modern representation of ‘woman’ and how these identities still represent a colonial construction. Her research includes looking at the identity within 18th-century ceramics and institutional displays that continue to perpetuate colonial ideologies, looking at how it can be recognised of the errors in ethics of ceramic collections after temporary intervention.
